What is a Sump Pump and why do I need it
Share
A sump pump is usually used during the construction process of an inground pool, especially in areas with high water tables and or potential for groundwater issues - AKA lots of places in Florida.
The pump prevents hydrostatic pressure (pressure exerted by a fluid at rest, due to the force of gravity which increases with depth) from damaging the fiberglass pool shell.
When building a pool the groundwater levels can have significant pressure on the pool's walls/floor - this can happen right away as well as overtime
So how does it work:
The sump pump (either submersible or pedestal) is placed inside the sump pit (a hole which is constructed in order to collect water)
The pump then removes water from the pit and discharges it in a safe area AWAY from the pool
It helps with removing extra excess water from around the pool - therefore protecting it
example: a fiberglass pool could end up with bent or curved sides or worst case simply pop out of the ground!!! you definitely do not want that to happen!
